# Spider wood

Twisting, branching roots. Perfect for moss and climbers.

## What the simulation uses

- Holds water: 30 % by volume (Water it keeps after draining; the rest runs down to the drainage.)

- Pore space: 50 % by volume (Room for air and water between grains; low means roots suffocate when wet.)

- Weight: 650 g/L (How heavy a litre is.)

- pH: 5 to 6.5 pH (How acid it keeps the soil.)

- Mould risk: medium (How much fresh food it gives white mould; high-risk soils fuzz over in the first weeks.)

- Breaks down in: 3 to 10 years (How long it lasts before rotting down to fine soil.)

- Nutrients: low (Plant food it brings.)

## Description
Branching root wood that leaches mild tannins and slowly softens over years of humidity. Fresh pieces usually sprout a white fuzzy bloom that fades on its own. In water it floats until weighed down for about ten days.

Also called azalea root, rhododendron root, spiderwood.

Estimated, where sources were thin: species identity and density not stated on source; density and decay estimated.
