Seiryu stone as drawn in the simulator

Seiryu stone

Reusable

Grey stone with white veins and sharp ridges. Slightly raises pH.

What the simulation uses

Holds water
1 % by volume
Water it keeps after draining; the rest runs down to the drainage.
Pore space
2.75 % by volume
Room for air and water between grains; low means roots suffocate when wet.
Weight
1480 g/L
How heavy a litre is.
pH
7.5 to 8.5 pH
How acid it keeps the soil.
Mould risk
none
How much fresh food it gives white mould; high-risk soils fuzz over in the first weeks.
Nutrients
none
Plant food it brings.

Description

A classic centrepiece for Japanese-style rock layouts, heavy and almost watertight. The veins are calcite, which slowly dissolves into wet soil and hardens the water.

Also called Ryuoh stone, mini landscape rock, dark seiryu.

Estimated, where sources were thin: mineralogy not stated on fetched page (calcite veining inferred); magnitude of pH rise unquantified.
